Vernazza, no doubt the prettiest of the five Cinque terre small towns, snuggles behind a rocky cliff in a depression in the valley near the sea. A piazza with colorful houses spreads onto the small harbor. In 1182 Vernazza battled on the Genoese side adverse to Pisa. A few segments of the old Genoese fortifications, walls and a round tower have been preserved.

Vernazza has the only proper harbor in the Cinque Terre and is a enchanting, small fishing village.
