If you are familiar with a bit of Italian, you should visit the beautiful country of Italy on your own. If, nevertheless, you’re looking to sit back and pack in as much of the land as possible, try one of the guided tours of Italy given by many travel services. You’ll mostly get a less expensive deal and you’ll enjoy the country on an air-cooled bus, complete with an Italian – speaking interpreter.
There are quite a few ways to take guided tours of Italy but several of them start on the north of the land and go southward. The visit can begin in the watery canals of Venice or in the fashion capital of Milan. In Venice, visitors can get a gondola ride and eat in one of the quite a few exquisite restaurants in the city. The picturesque city stretches across numerous small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon that opens into the Adriatic Sea in the northeast region of the country. Venice handily lies between the mouths of the Po and the Piave Rivers.
In Milan, a visitor on the guided tours of Italy can take a couple of hours to shop the expensive shops in downtown Milan. Your guides might have bought tickets for the group at the famous La Scala Theater. The Cathedral in Milan is the second largest cathedral in the Italy. Quite a few guided tours of Italy then point south, through the Tuscan hills and into the old and beautiful city of Florence, called “Firenze” in Italy. The Arno River goes through the city, also a destination of quite a few museums and churches.
Quite a few go to Florence to check out the Ponte Vecchio, a special old bridge crossing the river that contains quite a few cool shops and eateries. The Duomo of Santa Maria del Fiore is the wonderful domed cathedral within the city. On many guided tours of Firenze, you’ll be granted time to experience its many attractive churches or to see the Uffizi Galleries or the Pitti Palace. Outdoors, one can see a copy of the famous statue of David by Michelangelo or the original one, in the Uffizi Museum.
When you imagine you’ve seen enough churches, many guided tour of Italy will take you to Rome and the Vatican – both places where the churches and cathedrals are absolutely well-situated and amazing to go through. You’ll also see the Coliseum, the Roman Forum and the Pantheon – all areas of ancient Roman times that have been somewhat protected. You may also be able to find some catacombs, which were sites where early Christians worshipped and buried their dead.
No good visit to Rome is accomplished without a visit to the Vatican, including the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. These are fantastic sites that make you wish it were possible to take pictures. You can take as many pictures as you desire of St. Peter’s Square and St. Paul’s Basilica.
With a little luck, you’ll be on one of the guided tours of Italy that includes Southern Italy and a visit to the very ancient village of Pompeii. Destroyed by Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, it is presently a life – sized museum of what life was like in the normal city a millennium ago. It may prove, actually, to be the high spot of your guided visit.
